Fees for our legal services depend on the nature of the case. We do give an estimate of fees involved in a particular matter but only after an initial interview with a client. Fees usually depend on the following factors:
- The amount of time required to do the work
- The urgency and legal complexity of the matter
- The issues involved in the matter
- The ability of the client to pay

HOURLY RATES
For most types of cases, especially those involving trials, it is difficult to estimate the amount of work involved in advance. In these circumstances, time spent is recorded and charged by the hour. The hourly rate varies with the urgency and complexity of the work. We provide the client with itemized bills on a regular basis.
The hourly rates for the firm's lawyers are as follows:

DISBURSEMENTS
Disbursements in a case may include but are not exclusive to:
- Telephone, fax and data transmission charges
- Travel
- Postage
- Photocopying
- Deliveries
- Computer research charges
- Court, Corporations Branch and Land Titles filing and search fees
- Process servers' charges
- Court Reporters' charges
- Experts' fees
RETAINER
We usually require a non-refundable retainer to cover anticipated disbursements and partial fees. The retainer amount is calculated at ten hours of the individual lawyer's hourly rate. Lesser retainers can be negotiated depending upon the services required.

RETAINER AGREEMENTS
REFERRALS
In some cases after consulting with the client, we may find that the client's interests would not be best served by our expertise but rather by another party who may be able to achieve the desired result with a less taxing financial obligation. In these cases, if the client wishes we will recommend an appropriate party.
